    Gamera 3: Awakening of Iris is a triumph of kaiju filmmaking. While Kaneko's previous two Gamera films were great, the third and final film of his trilogy surpasses them even further. 

    Awakening of Iris distinguishes itself from previous Gamera movies by acknowledging an elephant (or in this case, fire-breathing turtle) in the room: while Gamera might be on humanity's side, he causes tons of destruction and casualties himself. And even the part about Gamera being on humanity's side is questioned…
