This movie will affect you. From the bones cracking during the plane crash to the heroic shot when we know the survivors will finally be saved, Society of the Snow leaves a mark. Have I mentioned the bitter cold and the do-or-die cannibalism in between all that? An absolutely terrifying and claustrophobic and painful experience. Not to mention genuinely inspiring.
The mountains are stunning. I assumed they filmed in the Rockies since they’re not as big as the Andes, but apparently they filmed this at the actual crash site in western Argentina. Wow. And how?
I really wanted to see what kind of fallout there’d be once they returned to society and it emerged they’d consumed human remains. I’m
sure that’s well-trodden territory in this whole saga—and not something to casually tack on in the last fifteen minutes—but you can’t help wondering all the same.
