Rebel Ridge is an often gripping revenge crime thriller, largely due to Aaron Pierre's compelling portrayal of a mysterious protagonist who maintains a steady composure amid escalating confrontations with corrupt small-town law enforcement. The action sequences are grounded in realism to the point of feeling intentionally anti-stylistic, with a few subtly athletic moments of cinematography that enhance the film's practical feel. While the plot can be a bit dense and dialogue-heavy for my taste, especially given my general indifference to this genre, the film’s tone is consistent, the pulsating score is dynamic, and its art-house genre sensibility deserves to reach its audience.
