Well, hi there.
Finally, I got around to check out Shyamalan's latest offering.
A father and daughter attend a concert together where they realize that they're at the center of a sinister event. Or Trap: the film where *you* are trapped.
Ah yeah. I was hoping for a different outcome but as more or less expected, it was a lot of fun but kind of misses the spark in the end to elevate it a bit.
It was a bit too long - when I thought we were done, it kept going, then again and then we were done.
It's clear that M. Night basically made this film to push the career of his daughter, Saleka and I'm not sure whether to be impressed or insulted although I have to admit that the songs weren't nearly as bad as I feared. Also on a different note I was obsessed with her makeup. I also thought that her acting was fine, her big eyes are great for horror films.
Josh Hartnett's Cooper is unhinged in this film and doesn't have a poker face in any capacity which was lowkey funny because everyone just ignored that.
Ariel Donoghue plays his daughter Riley who is adorable and just wants to experience the concert - finally something relatable.
My love Alison Pill play's Cooper's wife and I was *so* excited to see her again. She's just great.
Hayley Mills plays Dr. Grant and she delivers as the (insert random copaganda show) profiler.
M. Night's cameo took me out but I do love when directors put themselves in their films, ngl.
Kid Cudi also shows up and his hairdo gave me life. He ate those 10 seconds of screentime!
Plotwise, I was suprised that we didn't spent the entire time at the concert but that provided some nice tension.
Now, there are a few moments that left me scratching my head but I can overlook that because as I was watching this I thought that this is the epitome of a popcorn flick. Just have fun.
I will say the film is at it's strongest when we follow Cooper trying to outsmart the FBI and lost me a bit when the film moves away from that.
Still better than Old.
The real horror is girl dads using modern slang and talking to (what felt like) NPCs who conveniently told him everything he needed to know at any given moment and the lack of the one thing.. You know.. His "hobby". I totally expected that he would use that to get out. But alas. It's PG-13 and rated 12 here after all.
I hope the sequel is called something among the lines of "Trapped Again" and if we won't get a sequel, then oh well.
