I love Steven Soderbergh’s style of directing, and Scott Frank’s script. It has a witty sense to it that draws out very good performances from the cast, particularly George Clooney.

Gone Girl 2014
It’s highly entertaining and interesting to watch, though I can’t fully get behind it. Amy is such a weird character…it feels like her characterization prior to her disappearance is totally different to what happens after. And a lot of it just plays out too smoothly. It has clever writing and plot twists (I assume Gillian Flynn, the screenwriter, took a lot from the book, which she wrote) but the two main characters could be more strongly defined. I really liked the score though.

The Babysitter: Killer Queen 2020
It’s still kind of fun but it’s totally ridiculous. Making *that* character the villain is just stupid, and almost the whole movie feels like a copy of the first one. A lot of the same jokes and gags, and Cole’s relationship with Phoebe is a lot like his with Melanie in the first movie. And Bee…I get what they’re going for but I prefer if they didn’t try to change her, especially when ruining another character to be the villain…

The Babysitter 2017
It’s pretty fun and has some solid writing and stylish direction.
(And Happy New Year guys)!! -
Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story 2024
Really interesting and informative. It’s cool and even sad to learn about Christopher Reeve’s life through his triumphs and flaws, and hear from his children’s point of view.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 2024
Probably my favorite of the three. It does feel similar to the previous two at times though I like the new characters and dynamics between them. Shadow has a neat backstory but is still a little underdeveloped. I like what’s done with Ivo Robotnik though, and Gerald Robotnik is a fun addition. Excited for the fourth.

Nosferatu 2024
To preface, I tried to watch the original from 1922 twice the past few days but I couldn’t get into it.
This movie is very strange with some truly bizarre visuals. It looks terrific most of the time, and the story is interesting though it drags. Bill Skarsgård’s unrecognizable performance as Count Orlok is terrific, and Lily-Rose Depp is also really good. Not a fan of Eggers but I like this one enough.

The Fire Inside 2024
It’s pretty interesting. I really like Brian Tyree Henry’s performance, and Ryan Destiny’s as well.

A Complete Unknown 2024
I don’t know much about Bob Dylan, but this a really neat look into his life and career. Timothée Chalamet eases into the role as the film goes on, and Edward Norton delivers a very good performance as Pete Seeger. I really dug James Mangold’s direction and the script written by him and Jay Cocks. The cinematography is really good as well and it represents the tone well. It could be shortened by a few minutes but I was engaged throughout.
