Naomi Scott’s performance is genuinely outstanding and she goes absolutely crazy in the role of Skye Riley. The movie reuses the concept of the smile curse well with the main character being a world famous singer on tour. We see her personal issues and relationships with the people around her and with the help of Scott’s performance she is a great protagonist, easy to root for. Sometimes, mainly in the second half, it becomes hard to discern from reality and hallucination and the ending reshapes a lot of what was just shown. There is a few smart twists and one in particular is really cool and in retrospect neatly set up. I don’t know what else there is to do with a Smile movie but after this was even better than the first I’m intrigued by the thought of another, which is almost a guarantee.
