Interesting and audacious. Uniquely both a musical and a crime story, it succeeds in both aspects. Some of the musical numbers really pop, and often work to display feelings of characters that couldn’t be expressed as well without song, though sometimes it felt like it had singing as a cop-out for basic dialogue. Zoe Saldaña’s performance is really good, both when she acts regularly and performs musically. And the cinematography contains some really impressive shots.
