"My only desire is to be Her."
This is the level of ambition and originality most movies try to attain but fail at it. Emilia Perez however, doesn’t fall short at any point through its two hour runtime.
It’s a poignant piece held up by three of the most impressive performances that have come out of this year. Zoe Saldana has literally never been more amazing. Selena Gomez dazzles but the standout role I think belongs to Karla Sofia Garscon as the titular character.
Emilia Perez is alot of things—bold, audacious, powerful, unpredictable, wild—but I assure you it’s unlike anything you’ve seen before. From the most surprising line deliveries that would catch you off guard to the insane vocals from the cast, I sure as hell was in for the ride.
The musical production remains the heart of it all for me—the cream of the crop, the songs are nothing short of amazing and powerful and will definitely stick with me for some time.
This also has some of the most interesting cinematography i’ve seen in a while. Overall, I’m very much impressed by this film. It really does come pretty close to perfect in my books.
