With the recent SCOTUS rulings and the general state of America, I figured now would be a good time to revisit Mad Max: Fury Road because that’s the general vibe that I feel this country is headed towards /s
In all honesty, the reason I’m coming back to this film so soon after watching it in preparation for Furiosa is because my pal gave me this book, Blood, Sweat & Chrome, which details the storied production of this masterpiece. Kyle Buchanan wrote this book as a sort of oral history, and it reads like I was watching a documentary with tons of talking head segments. It really is a wonderful book chock full of incredible details and anecdotes about what it was like to work for the mad genius George Miller.
As soon as I finished the book, and pretty much after every page, I had an overwhelming urge to watch Fury Road again. So I did what any normal individual with an addiction to physical media would do: I bought a 4K steelbook off eBay. It felt pertinent to own this movie forever because it really is one of those rare, perfect films that I can watch anywhere, anytime. I know for a fact this disc is going to get a lot of miles over the course of its life, and each second I spend watching this triumph of moviemaking will be time well spent. If you are obsessed with this film and need more madness in your life, I can’t recommend Buchanan’s book enough. It takes an already extraordinary piece of art and gives you so much insight into what the hellish production was like. Fury Road is easily the greatest action film of all time, and it will take a miracle like Miller pulled off to ever top it.
