Poster game falls a *little* bit short here, but still good. This one tones down the madness of Biollante and King Ghidora, it's a bit more straight forward in the vien of '84. But it's still a really good time. What sticks out is how well shot this one feels. The other ones could've been interchangeable with episodes of Star Trek TOS, but here there's some really interesting work.
The monster carnage is really well shot too. Lots of banger action scenes, that never get boring despite how similar they are to each other. Focusing more on Mothra is a good way to keep things fresh between the times Godzilla goes on his drunken rampages. Mothra injects some fantasy whackiness with the twins that I still don't get. Despite looking like a flying pillow with wings, I love the audacity of making it look like the Japanese populace are awed by her beauty.
The big three way battle at the end is amazing. I love that Godzilla seems to interject himself into this battle between Mothra and Battra out of sheer pettiness, just to fuck with them both for no reason other than he's an asshole.
While it's a come down from the previous two in terms of weird and wacky nonsense, it's definitely still a well made meat and potatoes monster flick, and it's probably the most action packed of the lot so far, which helps it move at a super brisk pace.
