Always thought this one was underrated and still largely feel the same. Love the Indiana Jones inspired opening. Battra is a fun addition to the series with a really unique design even though he’s just evil Mothra. Godzilla is back to being a total bastard and of course Mothra steals the show as always. The real jump here in quality though is the actual filmmaking. Extremely well paced and it’s quite easily the best shot of Heisei series up to this point, some great uses of color especially within the miniature work and pyrotechnics which here is set in some really dynamic locations for the monsters to destroy. That goes along way too because when it comes down to it there’s just not a whole lot of different ways you can shoot a fight when one (and in this case two) of the monsters is a giant butterfly. Best scene is where Battra drops a giant Ferris wheel on Godzilla.
