Saw this early at Mubi Fest at the Salt Shed which was sort of like a big influencer event but I got two free tote bags so I can't complain (I'm not Stephen Malkmus).

At the Q&A afterward, Alex Ross Perry said Stephen Malkmus never checks his email which is so on brand. In some ways, he is the real deal--a slacker artist trying to be "anti- establishment," but as this documentary shows, that's impossible. He's a privileged white kid…

Watched this because it's Easter and I'm Catholic or whatever. Very beautifully shot but kinda boring, I'm sorry. Spanish Jesus is so beautiful, I believed that he and his unibrow could save us.

Just a good movie!! A real fucking movie that's funny and romantic and full of action. Everyone in this film is hot as fuck and it's gross but also cool and sexy. Loved the attention to the music, Buddy Guy is a legend!! Chicago's own ❤️ I also thought the Irish vampire doing a jig was phenomenal. I really loved all the different relationships in this film, so good. And the actor who played Sammy is incredible. The only thing I didn't like about this film was the title.

Girls only want one thing and it's to buy a horse and avenge their father's death.

I think Mattie is one of the best characters ever written. I recently finished the book and loved it so I decided to watch this. Part of my displeasure in watching this film is that much of her moralizing is removed in favor of advancing the plot. She is a severe young woman who grows up to be a rich and unremorseful old maid…

Sunday nights are the perfect time to watch a three hour contemplative foreign film. I loved how dreamy this was; beautiful scenery. Loved the scene with them outside of the school. And the kissing, God, what great kissing.

Feeling rather existential tonight. I'm scared that I'll die without ever having lived. Classic Sunday scariest though. I don't know. I like this film because it chases after grand explanations yet comes up short. The journey to find meaning is futile, but the journey itself can be meaningful.

I miss when they let actors who were a little ugly be the leads in movies. Incredibly bleak in a way that feels sort of refreshing. We are all doomed! Love is not enough!

I really enjoyed this. I like how the cultural footage punctuated the white foolishness. Really beautifully filmed. I understand Molly, unfortunately. Obviously, I would chase that handsome pathetic man across all of Asia despite it being abundantly clear he doesn't want to marry me. I couldn't help but think, however, outside of my own romantic folly, what a great metaphor it was for colonization. Molly couldn't simply be happy with that rich man: She wanted something impossible--the fruit of her…

People are ghosts, and ghosts are people.

I love when she goes crazy at the end. It's an infuriating circumstance she finds herself in. I often think about how women perpetuate misogyny, but of course this is a symptom of patriarchal control. Suicide can be one of the only ways to wrest control. Just a sad film all around. Gong Li is so beautiful. Wish I could've watched/understood this in the original language, the subtitles on my library DVD were lackluster.
