"men start wars and the entire planet should be a matriarchy." i agree with RDJ
so, i don't know if i liked this or not and i need to think about it. for now, i will say that i liked it way more than i thought i would, mostly because of the stunning visuals and the acting performances, which were really impressive.
i did find this a bit too heavy in sound and dialogue, i felt like it didn't leave any room for my brain to elaborate things properly. the pace also really confused me because it was slow but also too fast somehow? i don't know, maybe i was just tired. that last hour and a half was amazing for me though.
i did have some major problems with this and i want to preface them by saying that i understand we are meant to see things through oppenheimer and that obviously results in a very subjective and morally questionable view of the story. however, my mind just can't accept seeing such an awful event in human history solely through the eyes of someone who played such a key part in it and i hated that in some moments this film wanted me to empathize with him.
i felt weird about the whitewashing of the victims, especially when used in a scene that is supposed to be the epitome of guiltiness this man feels but, unfortunately, i just couldn't care enough about his guilt since it mostly came out only after he imagined people like him, white american people, being the victims.
the way women were written, or in some cases not even remotely acknowledged, is actually embarrassing and that's all i'm going to say because if i keep ranting about this, i will end up ruining even the bits in this film that i've enjoyed and i'm not in the mood for that atm.
shiva baby's sugar daddy plays enrico fermi in this. love that for him.
i need to watch more nolan's films and i need someone that loves me as much as americans hate communism.
