Nothing like a little Hitchcock for the Holidays. Jefferies, man, why are you complaining about Lisa? She literally did nothing wrong. Really putting the "L" in L.B. Jefferies.

Before I started this with my family, I told them about the whole gimmick of this film being as authentic to the 1970's as possible. Around midway through our viewing my Mom paused the film, pointed at an out of focus Christmas tree in the background, and said "That tree has LED lights, there's no illumination on the branches around those lights." How the heck did she notice that? Genuinely impressive. Guess this film wasn't truly authentic, what a ripoff.…

My hungry ass would've folded during the food scene.

What I love about Studio Ghibli films is that even though a majority of them can be seen and enjoyed by kids, they still cover subject matter that applies to people of all ages. And yet they are still executed in a purely fantastical way that gives Disney a run for its money. It's that incredible balance that really makes a majority of the films from that studio really shine. And "Spirited Away" is one of the best examples of this. Perhaps the most creative and visually stunning films I have ever had the pleasure of watching.

On par with "Kung Fu Hustle" with being one of my all time favorite comedies simply due to it's pure commitment to the bit. And when the film acknowledges the absurdity of what's happening, it's in a unique and clever way instead of annoying and on the nose. The Richard Nixon showdown was comedy gold.
