where the hell do i even begin to talk about this movie...this FILM...
i avoided pretty much every trailer and teaser i could, with the exception of one that played before a quiet place day one, so i went into this with next to no idea of what would unfold. needless to say i was very gagged by what transpired.
for the entire runtime of this movie, i was uneasy. filled with dread and anxiety, unsure of what was going to happen, anticipating the worst. the buildup was such a slow steady drip that when something of note would happen it slammed into me twice as hard and made my heart race. somehow this movie was simultaneously bitter cold but also suffocatingly hot.
maika munroe was so incredible in this movie. we need to bring her up more in the horror IT girl conversations because she's really killing it. idk if the autistic coding of lee harker was intentional or not but i definitely picked up on it. like autistic lee harker just makes sense to me. i love her. what a good horror protagonist, played to perfection.
before this, i didn't have any strong positive or negative feelings towards nic cage in all honesty, but this flipped a switch for me. that man is a CHAMELEON. his range is absolutely insane and he was excellent in this movie. the character of longlegs is one of the most unsettling villains i've seen in a while.
i'm so very glad that this lived up to the MASSIVE online hype. i said to a friend that if this was anything less than perfect after all the overwhelmingly positive praise, i would be disappointed. thank god the hype proved to be waaaay more than warranted.
this movie is a motherfucking masterpiece of dreadful horror. 11/10. no notes. osgood perkins i was not familiar with your game but i sure am now.
