Have you ever seen a film and thought it was being directed by a particular person, only to discover that person is involved in that project in another capacity? The same thing happened to me here, as I thought Pollack or Lumet was in charge, but turned out I was partly right as Pollack is a producer in here. It's a small detail, but I found it amusing. And in many ways, you can recognize Pollack's unique sensibility in the tone of this movie.
As for the film goes, Paluka does an outstanding job of managing the suspense and keeping us informed as the truth regarding this heinous crime emerges. The story is so unpredictable, you're left wondering what will happen next until it's over. Even though the music is very minimalistic, the piano melody encompasses emotions in so many ways, while still being very catchy.
Harrison Ford plays this ambiguous character to the hilt, in which everything points either way, and he could either be morally reprehensible or innocent. As the brilliant and savvy defense attorney Sandy Stern, Raul Julia is amazing in his limited screen time. The rest of the cast is great, and for the most part each has their own personality touches, which helps elevate the material while providing these characters with unique personalities.
All in all, this is a very sexy and engaging courtroom drama movie that does a good job of balancing all these genres cohesively, while at the same time making them interesting.
