Longlegs

Longlegs

It’s been a couple days since I’ve seen this movie and I want to further elaborate why I think LONGLEGS is a masterpiece of horror and why it’s important to form your own opinions when walking into a movie regardless of the buzz.

Horror is one of the most subjective genre’s of film in the world if not the most. I personally think Ari Aster’s Hereditary is one of the greatest horror movies ever made and someone else I know finds that movie to be "new age horror,” and doesn’t like that he can’t experience a movie and just be scared.

While personally I don’t feel 100% the same way, I can respect that because horror is so different to so many different people.

In the modern age we see every movie marketed as "the scariest movie of the year,” or "the scariest movie ever made,” and those reviews aren’t wrong.

To those people it may have been the scariest movie ever made.

So when coming across these horror movies you have to sit down and really just experience it without taking any Influence from the outside world which is hard to do but still possible.

I love LONGLEGS and found it to be a deeply unnerving and unique experience that I can’t see replicated anytime soon.

There’s something so addicting to a horror movie that just makes you sit in tension from start to finish.

Even when nothing scary is going on the movie finds a way to make you think the worst is going to happen.

There’s one shot in particular where a door frame is kept in focus in the background and you know there is no logical reason for that to be there but Perkins leaves it lingering there for you to imagine what could happen.

I love when horror isn’t shoved down my throat and I always preach that less is more. Showing a third of Longlegs face (played incredibly by Nicholas Cage,) throughout the film lets you imagine what this dark and nasty serial killer could look like and to me my imagination sometimes cooks up something much more stomach turning then what the movie ends up showing.

Which is okay, because that dread I felt up to his reveal is something that can’t be replicated I was on edge until the second his face was revealed.

These emotions I felt are emotions that like I said earlier, can’t be replicated. It’s a different type of horror that some people will love and some will hate.

The movie won’t be for everyone and that’s okay, don’t judge someone’s opinion because they wanted more but also don’t judge someone who thinks it’s the "scariest movie of the year.”

Experience movies and feel something.
