Paint Drying

This is my Dragon Prince season 1 episode 1 review from serialized.

Rewatching to prepare for season 7 and to give you my full thoughts of this show. So yeah episode one of Dragon Prince is pretty good. As with any good first episode it gives you an idea about the world you’re about to enter and the characters you should be invested in. Basically the main plot of the show centers on what is more or less a race war between humans and elves. In this first episode we learn about how a human king slayed the Dragon King that guarded the border between the two adversaries and allegedly destroyed the egg that carried his heir. Years later a group of elf assassins prepare to kill the king and his biological son. However one elf named Rayla is somewhat hesitant about taking the lives of others.
Meanwhile at the castle the king prepares to send his son and stepson away for their protection as his royal advisor try’s to think of a solution.
In this episode we get an idea about each of the character’s personalities. As I said Rayla is a tough warrior assassin but has a soft side and isn’t too keen to kill those she is told are her enemies. Callum, voiced by non other than Sokka from Avatar himself. And yeah he basically is just white Sokka but less confident and more humble. He isn’t much of a fighter and is more interested in stuff like magic and art.
His bro Ezren, the heir to the throne, is a cute little guy who just wants to play with his pet frog thing Bait and eat Jellytarts. While young he does have some moments of wisdom which we see through out the show.
Lord Viren is a mysterious character who seems to have a good relationship with the king but is hiding more sinister motives.
His daughter is somewhat lightheaded but also determined to follow in her father’s first steps and learn dark magic.
His son Soren is a dude who starts out as a bit of a jerk but as the show progresses becomes more like able.
The king is generally good hearted and well meaning, but as with any leader has done some things he regrets and worries about the dangers that threaten his kingdom and those he loves.
The animation is cel shaded, meaning it’s cgi animated but made to look more 2D animated. While in this season it starts out a bit choppy, the designs of the characters are really cool and the animation does get better as the show progresses.
So yeah if you want an LOTR/Avatar the Last Airbender style adventure, check this show out.
