Favorites are my favorite first time watches from the previous month.
CELESTE DALLA PORTA! WOW!
Had to watch this twice, I knew I liked it the first time but wasn't sure how much, second viewing confirmed...I like it a lot!
An alluring, luscious, intoxicating decades spanning odyssey was not at all what I was expecting from Parthenope.
A film of aching, exquisite beauty. The cinematography is absolutely stunning. Long but I was never bored. Occasionally strange, briefly laugh out loud funny. Taboo and eyebrow raising. The music, moving. Moments so hauntingly…
Rounds 2, 3 and 4
"All you had to do was kill Rose."
THAT'S RIGHT, FOUR TIMES, I UNAPOLOGETICALLY AND UNIRONICALLY LOVE LOVE HURTS!
Sure the screen play isn't gonna win any awards but it's simple to follow, easy enough to fill in any blanks for yourself, moves things along from point A to point B. The 80 minute runtime makes it such a quick, easy breezy watch! And Ke Huy Quan is just the bee's knees! (I kinda want…
I mean it's no Love Hurts but what fun! Novocaine's a start to finish absolute freakin' blast!
I really thought it was gonna be one of those films where all the best bits were in the trailer, but they actually showed some restraint, held back some of the gnarliest, most gory stuff for the actual movie?! They put Jack Quaid's characters inability to feel pain to excellent creative use with some brutal brawls, a fun booby trapped house of horrors…
A pretty incredible true story but I'm not sure there was enough to it to justify a feature length film. There's about 60 good minutes here and a half hour of filler. On the other hand Woody's always great.
I'm sure there will be those who love this, who view it as a metaphor, finding greater deeper meaning in it...i'm not one of those people. I got absolutely zero enjoyment out of it. It's way too long, some scenes were extremely disgusting and the few things I found interesting receive no explanation or exploration.
I love Dafoe but if I want to watch him descend into madness I'll stick with Robert Eggers masterpiece The Lighthouse. I see no world where I ever put myself through watching this again.
DIDN'T HATE IT BUT CAN'T SAY IT WORKED FOR ME EITHER.
Some truly awesome, creepy, disturbing, gross, slimy, squishy looking/sounding stopmotion animation is unfortunately wasted on yet another mediocre attempt at elevated horror where the real horror is trauma and mental illness.
The climax briefly peaked my interest with some eyebrow raising gore before ending on a random, weird, confusing, disappointing note.
Honestly I think I'm just becoming bored with this type of horror flick. They're all starting to feel exactly the same to me.
