“How often do you see them?” “All the time. They're everywhere.”
Ever since I ever became aware of movies beyond Pixar, I have been hearing about how amazing this movie is. Everyone in my family loves this film and swears by it. I had some very high expectations for this film and I’m happy to say that it met them. This was amazing!
First, underneath all the horror and general creepiness, lies a story about grief and openness that I think a lot of us can learn from. The performances were fantastic. Bruce Willis is lowkey underrated when it comes to pure acting. Toni Collette was obviously fantastic, especially in her final scene. She gave the best performance of the film imo. But what I want to highlight specifically is Haley Joel Osment, who gave what I believe to be the best performance from a child actor I have ever seen.
M. Night Shyamalan is clearly a talented director. He isn’t exactly subtle, but I thought it worked really well for this film. After all, the twist was right there in front of us the whole time, yet I was too distracted to notice. It’s truly brilliant how he did that. I also believe the movie still works as a horror-tragedy even if you already knew the reveal.
I felt like my attention trailed off a bit towards the middle of the movie, it felt like the movie got kind of repetitive but other than that there’s not much here to complain about other than some minor nitpicks. Oh also the score is fantastic. How could I forget! Glad I was finally able to watch this film.
