    Academy Museum Q&A with David Cronenberg

    I really love this movie and its layered themes and I feel like it's one of the more underappreciated Cronenberg movies. It just gets better with time. And I'm always struck by how it came out the same year as the Matrix.

    I love the exploration of the intersection of technology and zealotry.

    There is really nothing much like this movie. It's a completely hallucinatory mind trip. I don't have much to say other than that I love it.

    I'll add that the score truly works perfectly to lull you into the state of the film. Brilliant work.

    Look, it's well done, but the only thing I hate more than manipulative sadness porn drama is when Holocaust trauma is the basis of it. The ending is "cute" and helps, but there's so much unnecessary audience emotional manipulation. With some of this insanely dumb, unnecessary shit (one act 3 development is particularly egregiously piling on and unearned), I'm shocked people think this is a great movie.
