Demands a rewatch. Absolutely stunning on the big screen, Serra certainly knows how to use light & colour. Throw in a haunting soundtrack, elements of Claire Denis & there’s enough of the French marines, half naked muscle men & weird dancing to feel like ‘Beau Travail’ in an exotic location.
Colonial rule, interference, manipulation & subterfuge all bubbling along incomprehensibly. Nearly every scene there’s someone in the background, that’s political interference for you.
Who is going to be the top cock in the fight?
David Lynch would be proud.
Dreams won’t be the same for weeks.
