What am I going to say about this movie that will be new or groundbreaking? Nothing, of course. I’m nowhere near eloquent enough and Fury Road has been heralded as great and new and exciting since it came out almost a decade ago.
I’m a complete moron for not seeing this in a theater. I hadn’t seen any Mad Max movies from start to finish in 2015 (I vaguely remember Beyond Thunderdome cycling daily on The Movie Network back in the 80s but it never appealed to me), and when I heard Miller had come back to do another movie with Max in it, 30 years after his last, I thought he had lost his mind. Then I kept hearing about how amazing it was but alas, it was too late. When I finally tuned in when it was available to rent (yes, I think we still rented discs in 2015) I was blown away by how good it was.
And man does it ever still hold up with multiple viewings. The energy in this movie is completely relentless for its entire 2 hour runtime. Did anyone lucky enough to catch it in a theater take a pee break? I can’t imagine.
Fascinating to read about how much Hardy and Theron despised each other while filming this. Knowing that and then watching the movie somehow makes their scenes together even better.
This movie really does require you to watch it with the best TV and sound system you’re possibly able to manage. The sound and score are aa important characters as anyone acting onscreen.
