‘No-one knows what that means, but it’s provocative. Gets the people going!’
- Will Ferrel, Blades of Glory.
Poor Things is ambitious, silly, superbly acted and overall, pretty good, despite its main thesis getting beaten into the ground in the first hour.
The story begins in an alternative version of the nineteenth century. Bella Baxter (Emma Stone) is an experiment; a mad scientist (Willem Defoe) has taken the body of a pregnant suicide, transplanted the foetus’ brain into the mother’s…

Dune: Part 2 almost captures the books' hallucinatory magnificence. It is visually spectacular but still deepens the themes and emotions of the series compared to Part 1.
The story begins shortly after the events of the first film. Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), fugitive son of an assassinated Imperial Duke, has made an alliance with the Arrakis desert people, the Fremen, against evil House Harkonnen.
His relationship with the Fremen Chani (Zendaya) becomes stronger, and his mother Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson)…

Seth Brundle is a brilliant scientist working on a teleportation device which could make all other forms of transport obsolete. After becoming involved with a journalist and her scheming boss an accident occurs which…

Aspiring designer Eloise is in her first year of fashion school in London. She doesn’t fit in with other students due to her fixation on 1960s Soho. When she rents a room in a vintage bedsit she begins to have visions of a nightclub singer named Sandie and a technicolour version of the past. Soon the shadows…
