David Lynch managed to tell one of the most heartbreaking stories of human exploitation in a very sensitive, caring way.

    The Elephant Man
is a story of suffering, but also resilience, compassion, and human empathy. I love Anthony Hopkins more every time I see a new performance of his, and John Hurt was fantastic. I was brought to tears by this, so sad that it was based on a true story.

I’m a huge fan of La La Land so naturally I’ve had Whiplash on my radar for a long time. I was blown away by this, such an exhilarating experience from start to finish. Didn’t know a movie could give me so much anxiety.

J.K. Simmons gave a performance so intense that it was almost unsettling at times, and Miles Teller was excellent as well. That final scene…absolutely insane. Both actors just killed that sequence.

This rewatch was amazing. Pulp Fiction was only Tarantino’s second film and he already perfected the craft of writing insanely witty dialogue. I could never get tired of listening to Jules and Vincent ramble on about the most random shit. The movie can be so outlandish and absurd at times and I love it. The sequence in the basement is unsettling and a really tough watch, but that’s what makes the escape that much more satisfying. The star studded cast couldn’t have been…

    The Matrix

    ★★★★½

The Matrix is visually and aesthetically one of the coolest movies I have ever seen. The action is amazing especially in that final act and I was just mesmerized by every sequence. The world building is really good and the story had me sucked in right from the start. Really amazing stuff all around, definitely a classic in the sci fi genre. Took me way too long to watch this.

The film also poses some thoughtful questions about A.I., the…

    The Gorge

    ★★½

With such an interesting concept and two great leads, this was a bit of a disappointment. I wouldn’t say it’s bad but it really just felt like something was missing. There was so much more that could have been done with an idea like this, but instead it felt like a pretty generic action sci-fi movie. The romance aspects were pretty good, but again, this felt kind of bland. It’s fine, I liked a good bit of it, but just very mixed feelings overall.

  • Nosferatu

    Nosferatu

    ★★★★

Nosferatu was great! I had high expectations and they were mostly met. Eggers really knows how to set the tone early on, the atmosphere was suffocatingly dark from start to finish. The cinematography was just beautiful. Absolutely loved the visual style here. Lily-Rose Depp was great, Nicholas Hoult was great, I will always love Willem Defoe no matter what he’s in, and holy shit Bill Skarsgård was insane as Count Orlok. This was no better or worse than its 1922 predecessor, just different. I had a great time at the theater and hope to rewatch soon, and I’m curious to see if my rating will change.
