I feel a little ashamed that this is my first Luchino Visconti film. It might be a masterpiece. It's a little slow at times, and the direction can be a little formal at certain points, but there are some extremely imaginative and hilarious portions. Marcello Mastroianni's dance sequence is both humorous and surprising. The plot follows a conventional love triangle pattern, but with a lovely old-school Italian twist. The black-and-white cinematography is breathtaking. The entire film is obviously shot on a staged, but it does not detract from its beautiful authenticity.

The Wind Will Carry Us 1999
I only seen a few Kiarostami films, but this one might be my favourite. The movie is meticulously created. The story is both meaningful and humorous. The movie exudes realism. The countless non-actors are exceptional. The landscapes are breathtaking. The story is wonderful and well-balanced. It isn't a picture with a lot of plot twists and turns, but it never gets dull. Overall, you get a subtle portrayal of Iranian rural life.

By the time we got to the third act, I was 100% indifferent. The direction is not bad, and Chris Stuckmann is a promising director. I have nothing negative to say about the acting. Sadly, the story was too bland and derivative for my taste.

Queen Margot 1994
Reine Margot is an incredible bloody epic French tale adapted from the classic novel by Alexandre Dumas and based on the historical true story of Marguerite de Valois. The film is epic in scope and rich in details. The cinematography is incredible. At one point, I felt like I was watching a moving Caravaggio painting. The ensemble cast is astounding, but the facial hair of Daniel Auteuil is absolutly ridiculous. I had trouble paying attention to his performance because of…
