This is the first time I've rewatched the movie since its release when I was a dumbass 14 year old kid, and holy fuck I couldn't have been more stupid and idiotic for hating this movie back then. Just because I knew it was popular, wildly acclaimed, and a musical I watched it with the mindset of "I want to hate this movie" and I, unfortunately, managed to do that. I fucking hate myself for not letting myself enjoy this movie fully in a movie theater. Like, I still don't like musicals that much, but this movie has some banger songs and amazing choreographies.
The biggest aspect that I loved about this film was how it used color to tell us the story. Before rewatching this, I knew that La La Land did a good job at this (I think I saw a YouTube video essay or some shit), so while watching, I paid close attention to the different colors and what they could mean in every scenario. I am glad I did this because gathering the story through the colors as well as the dialogue felt so rewarding and good (e.g. when Mia passes in front of the recently closed Rialto theater, it's a bit crushing to see that the red sign that once symbolized her love for Seb is now off).
I liked the acting a lot, though in some scenes Ryan Gosling looked and sort of acted a bit funny to my liking. Still, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling were great because they made me feel so fucking invested in their love story. Hell, I almost cried with the ending of the movie (only Coco and Hachiko have managed to make me cry) and I had a fucking lump in my throat for like the last 10 minutes of the movie.
Also, the parkour guy in the musical number at the beginning was just hilarious to me.
So yeah, this movie just became one of my favorite movies, and depending on my future rewatch of "Parasite," I think it could dethrone it as my favorite movie of all-time (besides "The Incredibles" because nostalgia skews my opinion of it).
