The Lisbon girls didn't have the opportunity to be teenagers.
They weren't allowed to go out with boys face to face.
They weren't allowed to ride in the car with their friends.
They didn't go to parties or organize them (the party in the movie was the first and last in their lives).
Before they went to the prom, the girls went shopping for new dresses. Their mother added length to them, even though they were already long.
