To be honest, I've only seen a few movies directed by Rob Reiner.
But based on those I *have* seen, I can see that he has had a decent influence (or at least *should*) on pop culture. And this is certainly when it comes to movie culture of the 1980's and 1990's.
And even though there is still quite a few movies I haven't seen yet from Reiner, I'm definitely happy that Stand by Me is one of the movies I have seen. It definitely shows the kind of talent that he has, and certainly had during this time period.
The emotion and the humor in the story and the overall style when it comes to paying tribute to the late 1950's , and with a decent amount of success, coming out ahead in terms of evoking that time period.
But it's not just Reiner here, it's the acting and the screenplay too. Both produced great work here too.
And I guess that's the case here in general: With Reiner at the helm and in control, with a really strong cast of young actors and some good screenwriters to boot, this is one really strong victory on man fronts.
And in the end, we get a really sweet, charming movie like Stand By Me.
