Pure terror and dread. Even grittier and grimier than I expected. Seeing this in '74 would have messed people up. Glad I waited to see this in a cinema.
Ahead of its time. Especially the opening sequence which could almost be a prototype for the titles in Fincher's Se7en.

When Betsy Palmer first read the script she called it "a piece of [shit]", and she was right! She took the role of Mrs Voorhees because she needed the money for a new car.
Somehow I managed to make it this far without knowing anything about the ending, which made the final act kind of a delight. Instead of Jason in a hockey mask we get Betsy giving a hilarious performance that almost salvages a weirdly vibeless and boring slasher.
I hope Betsy enjoyed her new car.
