Rating: “It’s Alright, I guess” (higher end)
Wow. What a captivating story about the corrupted justice system, the importance of community, how the sins of generational past affects an individual, and finding any sorts of happiness in a bleak situation with an excellent lead performance from Jay Will (along with the rest of the cast giving good performances), solid directing, and some truly powerful moments that got me engaged and even got me in tears at times. I was ready to give this a “Great Stuff, Great Stuff” rating. But then third act happened, and kinda lost my interest for me. Not that it’s bad (it’s still good), it’s just that it didn’t fully grabbed me as much as the first two acts did (especially towards the end of the second act had me thought it was over) and I felt like it rushed through a lot of time jumps that it didn’t grasp on everything as much as it could have. Not to mention some of the lack of development of certain aspects that I felt like could have highlighted out more throughout it and such. Still a really solid film, but if it had a tighter script and focus, it could have been great. That last scene was indeed great.
