The first time watching this since I finished reading the book and wow it’s incredible how much Villeneuve has shown a massive love and respect for the source material within this first film alone. Even with the changes from the book to the screen, the core themes, ideas, and world Frank created in the book are intacted and doesn’t shy away form the bleakness and complexity that lies into this story about desert power and whatever or not a savior is worth freeing an oppressed nation or leaving them into a holy war. Incredible stuff and I can’t wait to revisit Part 2.
