The habit of being pessimistic is one I frequently fall in and out of. And with how stressful balancing online classes, homework, preparing for college have been, I've been developing an increasingly pessimistic attitude. But, luckily for me, scientists discovered a cure for my ailment. The cure is watching My Neighbor Totoro.
I'll admit, the first act of this movie was hard for me to get into at first. But, once that tree-hole opened up and I met Totoro, I couldn’t stop smiling.
This feels different from all other Ghibli films I’ve seen. For the first time in a while, I felt that child-like wonder of discovery alongside the main characters. I wanted to live inside this world. I wanted to latch onto Totoro and have him fly me above the clouds as Joe Hisaishi’s gorgeous score blasts from all around me.
This is a magical film, and absolutely one of my new favorites.
