    Wolf Man

    ★★½

The real horror is watching Leigh Whannell use his dope directing skills to make something no werewolf fan wanted.

I kinda feel bad saying that after reading up on the reason he took this route. But this was not the movie to do it with.

Still a well made film, which is why the rating isn't lower. I think my favorite thing is the sound design. There's also clearly passion for werewolf movies involved. Why else would the daughter be named Ginger?

But overall, this ain't it for me chief.

The context for this movie is more fascinating than most. Let me break it down for you:

Christian Tafdrup did the Danish original in 2022. While incredible from a filmmaking, technical, writing and acting standpoint, I absolutely hated the direction its story went for its third act (not the fact it went there, but that how it got there was so unrealistic). I'm not alone, either, as my negative review for it remains one of my most popular to this…

    Nosferatu

    ★★★★½

Most praise I can give this has already been said by better writers. But what I will say is this is a traditional and/or gothic horror fan's wet dream. Or nightmare. In this case, they're one and the same.

I'm not talking about high-adrenaline scares manufactured solely for stimulation. Nosferatu is basically the opposite, choosing instead to reward those looking for attention to detail, accurate representation of centuries-old lore, and a gothic tale absolutely drowning in dread thicker than Ralph…
