I know that "DreamWorks has always been an inconsistent studio" but god damn, this shocked me way more than I expected it to.
The Wild Robot features some of the most dazzling animation I have seen, it's visually stunning from beginning to end. There were so many frames of animation that look like something straight out of a painting, it's truly a triumph. The voice acting also caught me off guard with its quality. Some of the preformences here I would put up for best of the year. Both Pedro Pascal and Lupita Nyong'o did incredible jobs as Fink and Roz, delivering some truly career defining performances. The score is magical, there were moments in here that the score elevated the film to a point that I have not seen in a while. Every emotion at play here is powerful, It had me crying, laughing and smiling from ear to ear. I haven't read to book that this is based off of so I can't really comment on how well it adapts the book but I can say that it delivers one of the most beautifully crafted stories I have seen. It was truly something special. The humor here also suprised me, it managed to deliver some of the best humor I have seen from a children's animated film in a long time.
The Wild Robot is one of the best animated films I have ever seen, it deserves a best animated feature nomination and win, i would even go as far as saying that this deserves to be in the talks for best picture nominations wise. It's truly something special.
