New year, same old me. Here's to another year of a bajillion Ocean's rewatches! And being able to recite the movies line by line.

The Gentlemen 2019
I've come to really enjoy Guy Ritchie's style. Sometimes I can't tell if it's good or bad, but he certainly has one! I definitely enjoyed this more on rewatch after knowing what to expect.
Still don't love the racism though. I don't think any amount of rewatches is gonna fix that. -

The Shape of Water 2017
Overflow of Love was my top song on Spotify this year with 302 streams since August. That sums up how I feel about this movie pretty well, especially since lately my urge to disappear by diving into the ocean and assimilating with the water has been extra strong.
The best creature feature featuring a creature ever. -

Gladiator 2000
Upon rewatch (and after crying to the soundtrack a few times), I think this is absolutely perfect. Maximus' characterisation is so masterful and ahead of its time, he's really special to me. I just know he's the sort of person I'd follow into the depths of hell if he asked. It's incredible how a movie this brutal also carries such a heart wrenching tenderness to it.

Little Fish 2020
I haven't forgotten what you feel like.
God, just the way intimacy is portrayed in this movie. The gentle, sorrowful way they love each other. To know is to love. Do you think I know you better than you know yourself? Yet, somehow, the love perseveres even when the knowing slips away. I think love might be a tangible, physical thing that we just haven't the instruments to measure, but still we can feel it and know it exists. What a miracle of a movie this is.

Mononoke the Movie: The Phantom in the Rain 2024
Demon Slayer on acid. A crazy, dizzying, swirling rollercoaster of a movie. I wish this got a theatrical release! Genuinely, I cannot understate how absolutely stunning this movie is. I love it when animators go all out and push the medium to its limits. The sheer magnificence and beauty of some of the scenes had my jaw on the floor. This woke the artist in me out of hibernation, I feel like I want to make art again.
I wasn't…
