I'm usually quite lazy with my la la land reviews but seeing as lately i've been writing more full blown rambles of happiness i'm just gonna put all this out there and maybe no one will read it but that's life, that's what all the people say. It's so hard to properly word how this film makes me feel inside, because everything I type like "a warm feeling" or "it just fully helps me to escape" or "there's a nice way to say that, karen" just doesn't feel like it's fully doing it justice and I really want to be able to praise this to the moon and back completely honestly but I find it really difficult. It just gives me something very specific that no other film has given me before. It gives me this feeling inside that lingers, even throughout the next day, and seeps in when a song from the score comes on shuffle and stays in the back of my mind, making everything I do during those 3 minutes seem more substantial and motivated and optimistic and bittersweet. I wish I could see this for the first time again so bad, I wish I could hear every song or see every new colour palette and have that moment of genuine awe. I wish I could laugh at "I GOT THE BULLETS" "...yes!" and feel a bit personally attacked in my cinema seat all over again. I wish I could watch the a lovely night dance sequence, not knowing where they're gonna go next. And it's a real shame that I can't, that I'm so used to this film now. But it's also a sort of blessing/curse situation, because I feel that the closer you get to this film, the more you know it, the more involved you are, the closer it is to your heart, the more you feel you kinda really know these characters, the more you can analyse, the more you can pick up on that you didn't before. It has a sort of personal touch to it, like it's not only rooting for Sebastian and Mia to reach their goals but like it wants you to reach yours. I truly am grateful for this film, for giving me this new atmosphere I hadn't felt before, this Hollywood dreamland inside my bedroom. It's really somethin special and I hope I never stop appreciating it. If I do just start honking your horn really loud outside my house until I start making some god damn sense.
