Alex Leonce’s review published on Letterboxd:
If I had a nickel for every time Charles Parnell and Greg Tarzan Davies worked with Cruise in a Paramount action sequel, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't saying a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice (maybe thrice, but fuck it, lol).
If I had a nickel for every time a 2023 action sequel contains a setpiece set in the desert with horses and gunplay, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
I had such a great time with Dead Reckoning that I somewhat excused the distracting defective file the theater played. McQuarrie goes all out making this essentially a love letter to De Palma's Mission Impossible, as it contains quite a bit of talky dialogue and a SHIT ton of dutch/low angles. I swear, if you take a shot for every mentioned angle, you'd be fucking gone!
This is very much a relevant movie, so much so that the Writer's Strike can use it to protest against the stupid studios. The antagonist is basically a fucking powerful AI, I'm sure that grinds Cruise to the gear! As expected from the Cruise/McQuarrie combo, exciting action, huge stakes, and good ol' practical stunt work from Tommy Boy! Love the new additions, especially Atwell and Morales.
