like on my first watch, i find that this movie doesn't work as a comedy. the banshees of inisherin presents so many dense and provocative philosophical questions that i find the attempt at humor to truly bog it down. the bread van bit, the nosy mrs. o'riordan—none of it meshed with the intensity of such aspects…

the vibe is immaculate. wind in your hair, by the lake, sun setting near the end of summer. maisy stella is a star and a breath of fresh air, absolutely hilarious. super genuine and adorable, just what i needed after my back-to-back draining watches of the brutalist and emilia pérez. the way megan park puts the camera so close to the characters’ faces in the scenes near the emotional climax is perfect. shoutout to the little brother’s saoirse ronan wall 🗣️

a sea of strong performances but a lot of times felt like these actors were acting in a vacuum. like there was not super strong chemistry among the cast. kinda felt like they were just delivering lines with emotion and fervor but not necessarily in response to what was just said. anyways movie took a huge step up when willem dafoe’s character was introduced!! dude commands the screen and was easily the most engaging character. also can we talk about…
