This is a certified masterpiece. A brilliantly directed, written, shot, edited, and scored film that manages to be about the crisis of losing faith in the Church for an individual who could potentially become the new Pope (a career-best performance for Ralph Fiennes in a career full of extraordinary work), a metaphor for the contemporary political landscape, and a mystery of corruption and intrigue (I thought of The Firm quite a few times).

Ready Player One 2018
Second time around, I still had a blast, the opening 45 minutes to an hour are pure dynamite for the senses. It’s hard not to be in awe of Spielberg’s craftsmanship, especially during that first race scene. Starts off rather methodically paced, which one should expect with an Eggers flick, but I wasn’t altogether immersed at first like I usually am with his films.
