Interstellar

Interstellar

I had the absolute PLEASURE of watching a special screening of ‘Interstellar’ at the cinema, Format Bio. The hosts were great and knowledgeable and since it’s an independent cinema they seemed to really care about films.

This viewing has made me realize that I without a doubt consider this Nolan’s magnum opus, I don’t know if Nolan will ever exceed this incredible piece (looking at you Oppenheimer), but it’s too soon in his filmography to tell.

The amount of research and conceptual thinking that went into this masterpiece blows my mind. The fact that this film originated from 8 pages of notes written by Nolan as he came up with an idea for a sci-fi film is incredible and those 8 pages were probably good reading since so many people had faith in this huge project.

‘Interstellar’ is also one of the greatest scored pieces of all time, and the music tugs on the heartstrings time and time again. Matthew McConaughey is a great ugly crier, I feel devastated watching him cry and the soundtrack sure as hell isn’t helping my tear ducts.

Nolan masters the blend of dialogue/humanitarian carried storylines and visually interesting storytelling. The interpretation of space he created visually told a unique story and to think it is all semi accurate is wild, what a work ethic and passion that went into it.

Nolan’s films are always very ambitious and boundary pushing, I don’t think he succeeds with all of them, but ‘Interstellar’ does it. Some people will say it’s pretentious, but I for one actually think it’s extremely authentic and honestly quite grounded. I mean, both Miller’s and Mann’s planets are likely scenarios. A planet seemingly only containing water and a planet without any source of life or sustainability, both are very realistic scenarios and I love that.

The first time I watched ‘interstellar’ I was very intrigued by the “time/gravity-dimension twist” iykyk, so much so, that I gave the rest of the film less credit than was due. I now realize that I love every part of this film, I think this viewing seals ‘Interstellar’ in my top 15 films of all time.

Thank you for reading<3
