A slow- burner to begin with, with some poignant acting from the daughter in particular cutting through what could have become a stultifying watch. Yet it gained pace at an alarming rate, with one gruesome scene that particularly lingers.

By far my favourite film. Utterly hypnotic from start to finish, Lynch spins his masterpiece coating everything in a delicious ethereal quality. Hopper’s performance stands out, yet the entire cast are flawless; dancing to the mesmerising melody of Vinton and Orbison (whose career was reignited after this film).

A true revitalisation of the body horror genre. After watching this however, ‘revitalisation’ is something I wish to avoid. Fargeat stamps herself into the horror hall of fame with this film of many moral lessons. She adeptly runs a mockery of sexism with body empowerment continuously entwining the two, by showing what the alternative to self-satisfaction can lead to.
