Too many plot lines & characters but whenever Cynthia & Ariana are on screen together it’s pure magic.
-
I think a better movie would’ve realised it didn’t need a big battle third act but the movie we got was still pretty fucking good.
-
Really liked it, just a shame Anora was the least interesting character in the film.
-
Best opening scene and ending I’ve seen in a while.
-
Most studio comedies lose steam by the third act but the climax here is genuinely an all timer. Perfect balance of humour and heart, the scene of Paul Rudd defending Augie at dinner with his parents gets me every time.
“I’d be psyched if he was my kid”

It’s fun enough and it’s got that low budget charm but I find it hard to fathom how it’s garnered such a cult fanbase. 2 & 3 better be good.

A film about regular people coming together to shoot a “movie” at their place at work with limited resources, sounds familiar. I love the Askewniverse but it’s such a shame films like this & Jersey Girl bombed because Smith’s clearly a talented writer & director but he’s become so scared of failing again he's resorted to just playing the hits.

This film actually had a big impact on me when I first saw it in college. Spends the majority of its runtime as a hilarious inspirational romp clouded by a lingering sense of dread as you know how the story ends. Even in doing so, it turns the eventually failure of The Room into something beautiful and to be admired. Criminally underrated film.

“Choose the slow reconciliation towards what you can get rather than what you’ve always hoped for”
Still a transcendent experience. Better than the first.

Time hasn’t been kind to most of the jokes here but I still can’t help but love it. There’s not many things in life that bring me as much joy as the ‘ABC’ dance number and the shot of Dante simply smiling at Becky gives me goosebumps every time.

If I directed an Academy Award nominated, financially successful, generally positively received film, I’d be pretty ashamed of it too.
