FUN FACT: All the best Spider-Man movies feature a scene where Peter Parker dances in the middle of the street to ‘Drive That Funky Soul’. I don’t make the rules.
Dripping in colour and personality, not just from the opening scene but from the opening logos, Sony’s Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse grabs your attention immediately and never let’s go. Using a vibrant and unique style of animation, Into The Spider-Verse felt like a true comic book movie come-to-life. Into The Spider-Verse felt like a love letter to comic books and not only that but it felt like a love letter to the character of Spider-Man and to Spider-Man fans; something I have been all my life.
The characters are extremely likeable and so are the voices behind them. Shameik Moore is electric as Miles Morales and he is supported by fantastic voice performances from Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Brian Tryee Henry, John Mulaney and the scene-stealer... Nicolas Cage. And although, this is definitely Miles’ movie, the highlight of the movie is definitely Jake Johnson’s sensational portrayal of Peter Parker.
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is a groundbreaking superhero movie that will hopefully generate movie animated superhero movies like it and although it’s not my favourite Spider-Man movie of all time, it’s pretty close and it’s certainly a film I will be rewatching til the day I die.
