Week 48: a movie that you relate to
"When will I know I'm ready?"
"You won't. It's a leap of faith."
Not only is this the best Spiderman film we've ever gotten, but it's also one of the greatest animated films made to date.
Into the Spider-Verse has some masterfully well-written and developed characters. When I say this I'm specifically talking about Miles Morales and Peter B. Parker. Miles meets Peter when he is lost and confused about what to do next in his journey to becoming the superhero everyone needs him to be. Peter, while familiar with the ins and outs of Spiderman's responsibilities, is also suffering when their paths cross. He is filled with self-loathing after turning away from the pressures of fatherhood and heartbreak when he loses the love of his life because of his shortcomings.
Throughout the film, we watch both of these characters gain confidence and a sense of direction as they reflect each other's characteristics. The mentor/student dynamic comes to light quickly and eventually gives way to a more heartfelt father/son sentiment. This dynamic gives both characters what they were in need of at the beginning of the film and enables them to both grow as individuals. Apparent by the end, Peter and Miles become more certain of their path and how to approach their problems.
"When I feel alone, like no one understands what I'm going through...I remember my friends who get it. I never thought I'd be able to do any of this stuff. But I can."
Not only is the writing exceptional, with an amazingly well-paced plot and script. But the animation is next level. The perfect blend of 3D with 2D-comic-book elements creates an atmospheric environment while simultaneously reminding the viewer where these stories all started.
This film is nothing short of a masterpiece, visually and structurally perfect. And remember folks, Into the Spider-Verse walked so No Way Home could run!
