Alamo Drafthouse 75th Anniversary 4k Screening
I'll never forget this film. This film emotional touches me every single time I see it. It's a perfect blend of everything. I cry every single time.
When I created my 100 list originally, this was one of the first films I added, and I still stand by everything I felt. I always forget how much this film means to me. This isn't just my favorite Christmas film, it's easily one of my favorites of all time. I don't think one will ever top it. The heartfelt story that ends with one of my favorite endings to a film ever. I'll never get tired of it.
The writing shows how beautifully this film is made. It's climax and realization towards the end could have been done earlier, but the writers were geniuses and put it towards the end to build even more emotional attachment to everything in that little town.
The cinematography stills hits hard now, and the snow scenes still shine, even on the 4k remaster. I'm so glad that I had the opportunity to enjoy this piece of art on the big screen. Watching anything on the big screen is always a difference, and this needed that treatment.
Some of editing may be off, but I can ignore that because of the time it was made. Isn't it insane that this was made 75 years ago? Whoever says old films aren't good just do not have any taste...or they haven't seen this.
And finally, James Stewart's performance. One of my favorite performances in a film. George Bailey is such a pleasant character that you just always feel bad for, but you always root for him. I can't imagine the film without James Stewart in it.
I'll never, ever think this is a bad film. It's a landmark in cinema history. I cannot wait to watch it again.
