sort of like a digital age Peeping Tom but with the added commentary on fame obsession and how that's developed even more in the social media age. a nice update on the meta angle too by reflecting on the current state (at the time, although it's still going on) of horror remakes rather than sequels and of course they manage to tie that in perfectly with the main narrative and thematic points going on there. arguably the strongest script since the original and Craven's craft is still wonderful. no clue what the 2022 film deals with because I feel like there's no new ground to be made and it's not helmed by Craven, but we shall see...
