reminded me a lot of Andrei Rublev and The Wind Rises in how it deals with the overlap between art and faith, creation as a form of salvation, but also how an artist deals with the people (governments, patrons, businesses, etc) that ultimately control the work that you do and if you can create true, personal art under such conditions, especially if those people are exploiting you or your creation. masterfully done too, VistaVision needs to come back big time…

looks like shit most of the time and is dramaturgically weak (basically a film school script) too. not only is it unnecessarily grey and desaturated and poorly lit, but it also overuses coverage in the musical sequences to the point where it's clear there's no real care going into the compositions, it's more interested in trying to capture the choreography from as many angles as possible, which it then cuts between very awkwardly. and then narratively it's so painfully formulaic…

"make your own future"
a sprawling pop epic. feels like the pinnacle of Snyder's form. a hopeful portrayal of heroism and togetherness. of finding oneself whilst also acting on behalf of everyone else; power in the collective and the individual. but it's also just a lot of wonderful action that looks and sounds glorious too. just one hell of a picture
I will say though, Gal Gadot is still awful and the Flash's constant quipping does border on annoying at times. other than that though, this rules
