To be honest, I mostly watched this because of ‘Saibo’. That song was a catchy radio hit for what felt like years.
This is a very uneven crime-comedy-romance? movie. Some of the plot lines are a lot more interesting than the others and unfortunately we don’t get to see them develop enough. I’d have liked to see a movie centered around Tilak and his wife. Petty criminal reads The Alchemist and becomes reformed through philosophy, which “only the Westerners have”. Hilarious.
On the whole, the comedy is very hit-and-miss. Some decently funny bits and some cringe one-liners. The character Mandook is the personification of this inconsistency.
Similarly, it felt inconsistent on the technical side too. Some of the cityscapes and crowd scenes are interestingly shot, other times the camera is just shoved in characters’ faces as if it’s a school project. Lots of choices I didn’t understand.
‘Saibo’ is still a great song though.
