KAGO006’s review published on Letterboxd:
Watching the obscenity of the roman empire in imax is really something.
"Gladiator II" is an unnecessary sequel to a great classic, but it was cool to watch it, it was somehow worth it. As a movie nothing was groundbreaking on the narrative side, the story feels flat and pushed to be made a film, nothing unique about it, but to be honest I wasn't expecting it to be a great sequel, I just wanted to watch epic battles and cool gladiator fights and mad kings, that's all I wanted and I got it.
The movie was so epic from start to finish and Ridley Scott is really the one to tell a story like that set in the roman empire, he really can captures the obscenity and brutality of the roman empire, he can capture the epic battle moment for a character and he really choose his actors brilliantly to perform in those epic sets, like watching Paul Mescal fighting a rhino in the coliseum was really the experience I couldn't ask for more, and then watching Denzel being a badass in that set I'm truly grateful, and I can't understand why people can be be mad at Ridley Scott about being historically inaccurate, he know it and we know it, anything he make is historically inaccurate, but it's so fun to watch.
So if you're expecting a better or great sequel storywise you won't get that, instead you'll get a 2 and a half hours of epicness and great acting with great visuals.
